Other characters Played: None.

Character: Wing
Series: Transformers IDW comics
Age: Adult, 3-4 million years old?
History: Wing's TF Wiki page.
Canon Point: This will be at the moment of, or shortly after, his death in canon (end of Transformers: Drift mini-series). Wing will have just martyred himself for Crystal City and Drift, a destiny that I think the dragons would let him fulfill before being taken.

However, since he's grasping/activating his Great Sword at the time, a part of his spark (soul) will become trapped in the sword when the rest of him is rescued and taken away by the dragon. This results in him becoming a shade when he enters the Havens. There will be a later plot to make him whole when he is reunited with Drift, who inherits his Great Sword in canon, with the help of the Phoenix Dragon. (Mod approved, details TBD.)

Personality:
Wing is what I would summarize as a warrior 'philanthropist' (or the Cybertronian equivalent thereof). He is a lover of life who knows that taking it is still sometimes necessary. He is not a pure pacifist but shares many of those ideals, preferring to leave Cybertron rather than take sides in a war that he did not believe in. As a knight of the Circle of Light, his duty is the preservation of the Cybertronian way of life, their ancient culture and history. Given the way we see Wing reach out to Drift, aka the Decepticon Deadlock, it can be taken that he also finds a calling in the betterment of Cybertronians in general; their future as well as preservation of their past.

He is an idealist. He believes in the dream of a better world, a better life for everyone, and given that they've succeeded with the new Crystal City it only furthers his confidence in achieving that ideal in other areas. Some call him naive while others might say he is simply more pure, less jaded than those Cybertronians that have seen, and done, many terrible things during the war.

Wing trusts very readily and prefers to have faith, to see the best in people, which often creates opportunity for disappointment and is a trait that can be easily manipulated. He places trust in Drift immediately, despite the obvious Decepticon badge, presuming that Drift will honor their agreement. He continues to have faith in Drift past this first betrayal, persisting with the notion that Drift has the potential to be a better person. His easy trust and non-suspicious nature makes him an easy 'mark' for unsavory types, and though Wing is not entirely naive to the dangers he will generally risk having faith in a person or situation anyway, sometimes despite the odds, even when it is foolish to do so.

He is an ardent mech of faith, both religious and ethical. The Circle of Light is a religious order, dubbed a ‘cult' during the days of pre-war friction, and a certain level of zealotry would not be unexpected from Wing. Often it is faith that drives him, a belief in the better part of people, the higher karmic road, something that makes him stick to his idealism even though logic might make him or others question it.

The knight is steadfast and unwavering in his values, to a fault even. Wing's belief system puts priority on what is Right first, over what Law dictates. We see him disobey the Circle's laws in order to rescue slaves and save Drift, then later openly and stubbornly question his superiors to defend his choices. One of Wing's core tenets is "helping another is the highest calling one can aspire to". This pushes him to respond favorably to needful situations even considering the potential risks involved. Compassion is highly valued by him, and 'the needs of the many versus the needs of the few' is a cold philosophy that he has trouble accepting or acting on.

Wing has a strong tendency towards a self-righteous 'I know best' type of attitude, though he is not always right. He judges people, though he feels he does it fairly, and has a tendency to force his ideals and opinions on others when he feels it's necessary. He can be manipulative to these ends but he sees it as being a good influence or showing people the right path. As evidenced by Drift, he will take on people as projects when he feels they could use improvement, regardless of whether said person has welcomed this potentially dubious honor. In Wing's mind he's simply helping them better themselves, but he can get overbearing if he is not held in check.

However, even when confronted with his mistakes Wing owns them, and takes whatever steps are necessary to rectify them. When the consequences of his actions endanger Crystal City as a whole, he offers a cunning solution that involves sacrificing his own life. He is a martyr to that end, never wavering from his sense of duty (on-panel, anyway) until his time unfortunately comes.

Wing is very emotive, an easy physical read for anyone who learns his mannerisms, and tends to think of himself as empathetic even though his own ability to read people is sometimes flawed. We see his outburst in the council chamber, his pain at what he considers lack of compassion from his fellow knights, and his obvious distress when he feels he and Drift have formed a bond but he's betrayed again.

Overall, Wing is generally patient and kind, with a fairly even temperament. He is more likely to display disappointment than anger. When he is angered, it is intense yet controlled, precise, sharp like the edges of the blades he carries. He tries to remain on the positive side of any situation, giving him a mildly sunny disposition on the best days, and a generally optimistic view when confronted with problems. Challenges are teachers not adversaries. It's not uncommon for him to come off as rather cheeky and even a touch cocky in situations where his self confidence, good humor and optimism can shine.

And because I prefer full-bodied characters and Wing has only so much canon, I've extrapolated on canon facts/quirks to add the following minor details.

Living in Crystal City has instilled an interest in cultural arts and music, something he did not have ready access to before joining the Circle. Thanks to his life being sheltered for the better part of the war, he enjoys new experiences, particularly exploration, and has a healthy sense of curiosity. This also helps make him a lover of stories, both historical and fictional, and he may have a weak spot for adventure fantasies. Add in his idealistic tendencies and you have yourself a healthy dreamer. I also tend to consider him a bit of a romantic, especially now that romantic love is officially canonized, given his friendly and idealistic nature.

He's been quite sheltered in the confines of Crystal City for thousands of years and something draws him out to discover the slave traders in the first place. Whether that is a sense of curiosity/suspicion at the new residents on the planet or a need to stretch his wings and fly is not certain, but these are both aspects that I play into the character based off that reasoning. He has an ardent lover of flight (as indicated by his name), both the freedom and challenge of it, and is an extremely athletic flier.

I tend to play him formal and polite in the company of strangers and more casual among friends. And though he tries to always put his best foot forward, he has his moments where he slips up. Wing is not a shining knight through-and-through: he has his flaws, his downfalls, and though sometimes he does fail, he does make the effort to try and choose the higher road every day.

Skills and Abilities:

Combat Skills
Wing is deftly trained in martial hand-to-hand and bladed combat. Given thousands of years to train, he knows various disciples and uses both hard and soft techniques, but favors a style that employs speed, agility, avoidance and redirection rather than always meeting an opponent's assaults blow for blow. Because he prefers melee mobility and is a flier, Wing is likely not as heavily armored as some grounders equal his size, but what he sacrifices in the area of armament he gains in speed and agility. As a knight of the Circle of Light he is forbidden the use of anything but melee weapons. His skill in dodge and missile parry (we see several knights using this skill so I presume its standard for those agile enough) coupled with his ability to quickly close distance make him a formidable opponent, even versus those using firearms.

Though Wing has superb formal training and is far from being 'green' as combatants go, he has understandably less field combat experience compared to those that have fully participated in the Great War. This can prove to be a failing in the chaos of real combat situations, especially when going up against a challenging or superior foe. He has little issue cleaving through a crowd of slave trader thugs--even tossing training tips to Drift mid-fight--but when singled out by their leader it proves to be his failing and he is killed just as he's drawing his Great Sword. It also could be reasoned that a failure to keep up his training with his Great Sword contributed to his downfall.

For armed combat, Wing uses paired one-handed plasma energy blades similar to a falchion. They have no physical blade and though the length of the energy blade seems to vary in canon portrayals, the average seems to be equal to a short sword. When not in use the blades de-energize and the grips are stowed at the small of his back via magnalocks. They are extremely sharp, slicing easily through flesh and bone. Like every other knight of the Circle, he also carries an ancient Cybertronian Great Sword on his back. This is a large two-handed sword with no true Earth equivalent in design, longer than even a Zweihänder or Scottish Claymore but with only a large square gemmed cross-guard and simple pommel. The breadth and limits of the Great Swords capabilities are not detailed in canon, though it seems implied they have immense potential. When active they arc copious amounts of bright blue lightning and the damage capability is greatly increased. A Great Sword's primary limitation is its power source, that of the spark of its very wielder. Because the sword draws power from its wielder's life force, if overused the weapon can weaken and potentially kill them; as such, they are only used as a last resort. Common fanon is that this is facilitated through a bond or link between the wielder's spark and the sword, but the nature of this bond can vary from person to person. When dormant the Great Sword can be wielded by anyone and like any normal sword at no cost to the wielder. How activation exactly works is unknown; Drift taps into Wing's blade to kill his attacker in a fit of rage with no knowledge of how, and it's unclear whether that is solely an act of his unconscious will or if the Great Sword has enough sentience/autonomy to respond to his need and do it for him.

Racial Abilities/Traits
As a Cybertronian, Wing has the ability to transform into a light and extremely fast jet. We never actually see him fly in canon but his name and kibble (the nacelles, the folded wings, etc) support this. As such, the rest of this information is extrapolated from canon evidence but not specifically proven. He is an agile flier, and as with Wing's bipedal mode, his lighter armor gains him greater speed and maneuverability, including VTOL capability (which is common for Cybertronian jets). Given the ratio of engine size to overall body mass, I presume his top speeds are quite fast. He has some use of his nacelles, jump jets and wings in his bipedal mode, making him capable of sustained flight though not at speeds anywhere close to his jet mode. He can carry, at minimum, a mech his same size/weight over long distance while flying this way. More weight would likely hamper his efforts a great deal. For more details on the topic, there is a longer write-up of canon supported head canon here.

His body has internal and external sensors and self diagnostic arrays similar to many Cybertronians, with an internal HUD on which data is displayed. Wing also has a wireless comm that can be used to access digital communications systems (including other mechs) which appears as a small vid-screen that flips up from his forearm, as well as a hard link comm and data interface option which seems standard for Cybertronians. He also has an auto-repair system that is equivalent to minor self healing, but major injuries will need to be cared for by a medic.

Cybertronians, as a feature of their ability to adapt to alien environments and races, can process languages internally in a way that makes them understood by the native population. This is somehow done through analysis of broadcast transmissions and/or direct observation, (the one canon example of this has them learning language of a primitive species that has no technology so who knoooows how that works?). Another feature of their adaptability is a hardlight holomatter avatar that they can project. This is commonly used to mingle incognito with native species, including having a driver in vehicle mode, but said avatars can be fully autonomous if the Cybertronian transfers their consciousness to it. The range is unknown, but seems to be up to several city blocks. The avatars appear to exhibit greater than normal human strength but no further details are known. The backlash of destroying a holoavater can daze or stun the Cybteronian using it for a few moments. The avatars can be programmed with any alien likeness, and though Wing does not currently have one, it's something he'll work towards in game.

Other Skills
As a knight of the Circle Wing is well learned in Cybertronian theology and history. He is likely versed in Primal Vernacular (Old Cybertronian) thanks to the Circle, in addition to the more modern language of NeoCybex. As a former active combatant and refugee rescuer, he knows minor field first aid, though these skills will be rusty.

Third Person Sample:

It was change.

A shock of new in the comfortable utopian environment of Crystal City, a hidden Cybertronian sanctuary and refuge determined to stay removed from the ravages of war. Centuries passed and even if things changed--as big as buildings or as small as lunch menus--it was still the same faux skyline, the same synthetic energon. It was like being in stasis, perfection captured under glass, only that glass was thick metal shutters and enough rock to shield them from any energy scanner.

Except there's a newcomer, the first in ages, and at Wing's behest. Well, insistence is more like. He refused to leave one of his own kind, Decepticon or not, to die and be parted out at the hands of bio-slavers. Had he seen something in Drift? Or Deadlock, as he knew now, the mech's current designation pulled from level one medical diagnostics when he'd arrived. A most feared Decepticon, if the few reports that filtered their way proved correct. Did Wing see potential in him or did the knight merely crave change? A drop in the waters of normalcy that shifted the mirror-like surface, sending ripples throughout the whole of the city.

Dai Atlas seemed to think that single drop would poison the whole basin. And worse than that, allowing the Decepticon to leave and reveal their location was paramount to suicide. Which left one choice: convert him. Who wouldn't want to live in utopia?

Someone dedicated to war. Namely Deadlock.

Or so he said. But why? There's a story there and Wing wanted to hear it. He took it as a sign: Deadlock not giving that designation upon their first meeting. Maybe it was deceit, or maybe it was the birth of a mech who wanted to leave an old regime behind. To be freer, less bound or locked into a given faction; to be Drift instead, carried by a different, more independent force.

Or perhaps Wing enjoyed his symbolism too much. Time would tell.
