IC Information
Character Name: Wing
Character Canon: Transformers IDW comics
Character Age/Gender: Adult, (~4.5 million years old)/hermaphrodite
Canon Point: Middle of Issue 2 of the Transformers: Drift mini-series. Wing has rescued Deadlock/Drift from the slavers, brought him to Crystal City and seen to his repairs. The Decepticon is now his charge and Wing has issued a challenge: that if he wants to return to the war, he must defeat Wing in hand-to-hand combat.
Character Canon History: Wing's TF Wiki page.

Character Personality:
Wing is what I would call a warrior ‘philanthropist’ (or the Cybertronian equivalent thereof). He is a lover of life who knows that taking it is still sometimes necessary. He is not a pure pacifist but shares many of those ideals, preferring to leave Cybertron rather than take sides in a war that he did not believe in. As a Knight of the Circle of Light, his duty is the preservation of the Cybertronian race along with its history and culture, but he also finds his calling to be the betterment of the race's future and not simply the preservation of its past.

He is an idealist. Though not as worldly wise as those who have lived amidst the war and traveled to more alien civilizations, he holds a philosophical wisdom beyond his age which serves as his life guidance in lieu of experience. Some call him naive while others might say he is simply more pure, less jaded than those Cybertronians that have seen, and done, many terrible things during the war. He holds a firm confidence in himself and his place in the world. He is steadfast and unwavering in his values, to a fault even. His belief system puts priority on what is Right first, over what Law dictates. He will openly and stubbornly--though still respectfully--question authority to this end if necessary.

One of Wing's core tenets is 'helping another is the highest calling one can aspire to.' This pushes him to respond favorably to needful situations even considering the potential risks involved. He prefers to think the best of people, which often creates opportunity for disappointment when those individuals, or their actions, do not meet his expectations. However, even when confronted with his mistakes he owns them, and takes whatever steps are necessary to rectify them, dutifully paying the cost even when that means extreme personal sacrifice.

Wing is patient and kind, with an extremely even temperament. He is more likely to display disappointment than anger. When he is angered, it is intense yet controlled, precise, sharp like the edges of the blades he carries. He tries to remain on the positive side of any situation, giving him a mildly sunny disposition on the best days, and a generally optimistic view when confronted with problems. Challenges are teachers not adversaries. It's not uncommon for him to come off as rather cheeky and even a touch cocky in situations where his self confidence, good humor and optimism can shine.

Because of his political leanings (neutral) he will not automatically find kinship with any Autobot or Decepticon. Preferring, if they do find an ideological kinship, to bond over ideals more specific and positive to the entire Cybertronian race as a whole rather than those that motivate the two factions. When confronted with an ardent believer in those values, it is not unlike him to attempt to bring light to the flaws in their methodology. He prefers to judge people based on their actions, preferably from his own experience instead of others, rather than things like faction or heresy.

(This part is a little headcanony) Other qualities I feel Wing has: Boundless enthusiasm. Intensely passionate. Emotive, open, friendly, and rather curious. Lover of stories, both historical and fictional plus cultural arts and music. Enjoys new experiences and exploration given the isolation during the later half his life. He has an ardent love of flight, both the freedom and challenge of it, and is an extremely athletic flier. In the moments when he does question or doubt--his path, his choices, his judgment of others--it troubles him greatly and he is strident in seeking answers.

Addendum (Negative Aspects and Weaknesses):

Wing is emotional and very emotive, an easy physical read for anyone who learns his mannerisms, and tends to think of himself as empathetic even though his own ability to read people is often flawed. He is an ardent mech of faith, both religious and ethical. He trusts very readily and prefers to see the best in people which is a trait that can be easily manipulated. This makes him an easy 'mark' for unsavory types, and though Wing is not entirely naive to the dangers he will generally risk having faith in a person or situation anyway, sometimes despite the odds, even when it is foolish to do so.

Wing has a strong tendency towards a self-righteous 'I know best' type of attitude. And though sometimes he is right, often he is not. Yet he stills places judgments on others based on his perspective and tends to force his ideals and opinions on others when he feels strongly about them. He's fine with an 'each to his own' philosophy until there are ethical ramifications. The bigger those ramifications are though, the pushier he gets. He will speak out, stand against, and call out people or situations that he feels are in the wrong, even against his superiors. But it's always his notion of 'wrong'. He will even break given laws and endanger others if he feels it is necessary to do what he sees is right. 'The needs of the many versus the needs of the few' is a cold philosophy that he has trouble accepting. Compassion comes first; he won't sacrifice another person's life just to protect so many others, (unless that life is his own.)

He can be very manipulative to all of these ends but he sees it as being a good influence or showing people the right path. He tends to take on people as projects when he feels they could use improvement, regardless of whether said person has welcomed this potentially dubious honor. In Wing's mind he's simply helping them better themselves, but he can get overbearing and his attention cumbersome if he is not held in check.

Wing is a knight and his dedication to duty and friends can be his downfall. He'll work hard to a degree that is unhealthy and sometimes negligent of other things or people in the process. He has a tendency to hide his own woes for fear of burdening others, to the point that when he needs help it often comes too late. He is a martyr--quite literally in canon--and can be self-sacrificing more readily than is necessary. Doing stupidly noble and heroic things that are still STUPID is entirely in his purview.

Wing can sometimes be curious to a fault, especially when it comes to exploring--be it physical terrain or more abstract mysteries--which can occasionally get him into trouble.

Character Abilities:
Wing is deftly trained in martial hand-to-hand and bladed combat. His style employs speed, agility, avoidance and redirection rather than always meeting an opponent's assaults blow for blow. Because he is an airframe and prefers melee mobility, Wing is not as heavily armored as some equal his size, but what he sacrifices in the area of armament he gains in speed and agility. As a knight he is forbidden to use anything but melee weapons. However his skill in dodge and missile parry makes him a formidable opponent versus those using firearms.

Though Wing has superb 'textbook' training, and is far from being 'green' as combatants go, he has understandably less in-field combat experience compared to those that have participated in the Cybertronian Civil War. This can prove to be his failing in real combat situations when going up against a challenging or superior foe.

As a Cybertronian, Wing has the ability to transform into a light and extremely fast jet. As with his robot mode, because of his lighter armor he gains greater speed and maneuverability, including VTOL capability. He has some use of his nacelles, jump jets and wings in his robot mode, making him capable of sustained flight though not at speeds anywhere close to his jet mode. He can carry close to twice his weight with relative ease while flying this way, but more would hamper his efforts a great deal.

His body has internal and external sensor and self diagnostic arrays similar to most Cybertronians, with an internal HUD on which data is displayed. He can understand any language he has a language pack installed for, but he does not know any Earth languages. He also has a wireless comm that can be used to access communications systems as well as a hard link comm and data interface option. He has an auto-repair system that is equivalent to minor self healing.

Character Inventory:
Dual Energy Blades: Paired one-handed energy blades similar to a sabre or falchion. No physical blade. When not in use the blades de-energize and sheath/magnalock at the small of his back. Extremely sharp, slicing easily through organic matter.

Great Sword: Large two-handed sword. No true earth equivalent in design, longer than even a Zweihänder or Scottish Claymore but with with next to no crossguard or pommel. The limits of this weapon's capabilities are unknown, though it is said the Great Swords have the potential for immense power. The sword's greatest limitation is its power source, that of the spark of its very wielder. Since the sword draws power from its wielder's life essence, if overused the weapon can potentially kill them. Therefore the weapon is typically used only as a last resort.

Other miscellaneous items in his storage compartment include a datapad (personal touchscreen computer), a sharpening stone/whet stick and a partial packet of energon gel candies.

Introspective/Third person:

It was change.

A shock of new in the comfortable utopian environment of Crystal City, a hidden Cybertronian sanctuary and refuge determined to stay removed from the ravages of war. Centuries passed and even if things changed--as big as buildings or as small as lunch menus--it was still the same faux skyline, the same synthetic energon. It was like being in stasis, perfection captured under glass, only that glass was thick metal shutters and enough rock to shield them from any energy scanner.

Except there's a newcomer, the first in ages, and at Wing's behest. Well, insistence is more like. He refused to leave one of his own kind, Decepticon or not, to die and be parted out at the hands of bio-slavers. Had he seen something in Drift? Or Deadlock, has he knew now, the mech's current designation pulled from level one medical diagnostics when he'd arrived. A most feared Decepticon, if the few reports that filtered their way proved correct. Did Wing see potential in him or did the knight merely crave change? A drop in the waters of normalcy that shifted the mirror-like surface, sending ripples throughout the whole of the city.

Dai Atlas seemed to think that single drop would poison the whole basin. And worse than that, allowing the Decepticon to leave and reveal their location was paramount to suicide. Which left one choice: convert him. Who wouldn't want to live in utopia?

Someone dedicated to war. Namely Deadlock.

Or so he said. But why? There's a story there and Wing wanted to hear it. He took it as a sign: Deadlock not giving his true designation upon their first meeting. Maybe it's deceit, or maybe it's the birth of a mech who wanted to leave an old regime behind. To be freer, less bound or locked into a given faction; to be Drift instead, carried by a different, more independent force.

Or perhaps Wing enjoys his symbolism too much. Time will tell.
